This medication works through its dual action – Furosemide is a powerful short-acting diuretic that helps reduce fluid retention, while Spironolactone serves as a potassium-sparing diuretic, preventing the loss of potassium in the body.

How Does Spiromide Work?

• Furosemide acts as a diuretic, promoting the excretion of water and salts through the urine. It works within an hour, and its effects usually last between four to six hours.

• Spironolactone, on the other hand, inhibits aldosterone, which helps maintain potassium levels while effectively promoting sodium excretion. The full benefits of Spironolactone take longer, typically up to two to three days.

Together, these medications help manage symptoms of heart failure, cirrhosis, and secondary hyperaldosteronism by reducing the build-up of fluid in the body, improving overall fluid balance and relieving oedema.
